About Leeming
Leeming’s Tornado F3 operations ended in 2008. No 100 Squadron’s Hawks were based here from 1995 until the squadron disbanded in 2022. RAF Leeming: station role and history
Air Defender’s standard allocation includes Tornado F3s and Hawk T1As at Leeming. The two aircraft types have separate callsign pools. Check ASSETS for your session’s aircraft before choosing a task.
The runway numbers shown are 16/34. Each strip has a number at both ends. The table below gives the lengths and widths.

What am I looking at?
Runway: the long strip where aircraft take off and land.
Taxiway: a route aircraft use to move on the ground.
Apron: a place where aircraft park and receive fuel or repairs. Small blocks show buildings.
Read the runway numbers
The two numbers on a strip describe opposite directions along the same runway. They are based on magnetic compass direction, rounded to the nearest ten degrees, with the final zero left off.
For 16/34, 16 means about 160° and 34 about 340°. They are 180° apart: the same strip used in opposite directions.
The arrow marked N / TRUE points to true north, towards the North Pole. Runway numbers use magnetic north, the compass reference, so the two directions do not have to match.

A strip’s full length is not necessarily the distance published for landing. For a worked example, compare the full runway and landing distance at Leuchars.
