Read the report
| Report | Meaning and next check |
|---|---|
| TALLY | The pilot has visual contact: they can see the target. Match the report to the flight and target. Seeing an aircraft does not yet tell you that it is hostile. |
| JUDY | The fighter is taking control of the intercept. Follow the identification exchange; JUDY itself is neither a visual identification nor permission to fire. You do not need to assign ENGAGE just because it was reported. See the JUDY button and automatic exchange. |
| POSID | Positive identification: the aircraft has been identified. In the game’s visual-identification sequence, this can be delivered as a fuller identification report. Read what was identified and compare the target’s information. Knowing the type is different from deciding whether it should be attacked. |
| MERGED | The fighter and target have reached the close visual part of the intercept. They need not occupy the same point on the map. Follow the next report; MERGED does not confirm a collision or a weapon hit. |
Follow the right flight
- Open ACTIVE COMMS and select the tile for the flight’s callsign and channel. Use the channel-selection guide if you cannot match them.
- Read the flight’s ASMA messages as well as listening. Check the named target, especially when several intercepts are happening.
- Use ACTIVE OPS to compare the actual task and status with the report. A report describes progress; it does not necessarily create a new task.
- If a message is hidden by the selected channel or another filter, use the filter controls. Do not assume silence means the fighter has stopped.
Do these always happen in this order?
No. This table is a reading aid, not a checklist requiring four separate calls every time. The identification exchange can provide the information without a separate spoken POSID label. Read what the flight reports and follow the current training objective.
Report, identity and order
For example, TALLY says the pilot can see the aircraft. An identification report may then tell you its type. H is the contact’s hostile identity. ENGAGE is the fighter’s attack task. Use the guide to keeping those ideas separate and the weapons-hot message guide.
