How do I save, leave and continue my game?

Save the situation before leaving if you want to carry on later. Returning to the main menu and closing the game use different exit steps.

Save before you leave

  1. Press Escape to open the menu. If Escape only closes a smaller window, press it again once that window is closed. Look for SAVE GAME in the menu that opens.
  2. Choose SAVE GAME → CREATE NEW SAVE. Enter a recognisable name, such as Before tanker launch, then choose SAVE NEW.
  3. A successful new save closes the menu. Reopen Escape → LOAD GAME and check that your new entry is listed. Do not select it just to check its name: clicking the entry loads that saved situation.
  4. Choose BACK to return to the menu’s main choices. Choose EXIT TO MAIN MENU to leave the session, or EXIT TO DESKTOP to close the game.

Choose the right button

ButtonWhat happens
BACKFrom the menu’s main choices, closes the menu and returns to the current session. It does not start another game.
EXIT TO MAIN MENUEnds the current session and returns to the opening menu. This route does not make the desktop exit’s safety save: make your own save first.
EXIT TO DESKTOPAttempts an automatic save, then closes the game if saving succeeds. If saving fails, the game stays open and reports the failure.

Continue later

  1. Choose LOGIN and select the same player profile you used when saving.
  2. Choose LOAD GAME from the main menu, then select your saved entry.
  3. Check the map, aircraft, Game Time and current task. You are continuing the saved situation, so progress made after that save will not be included.
  4. If the situation is paused, use the time controls to resume when you are ready.

If the game will not exit

The message SAVE FAILED — EXIT CANCELLED. Check storage/permissions, then retry. means the desktop exit’s save did not succeed. Keep the session open. Check free space on the drive and whether security software is blocking the game from writing files, then try saving again. Forcing the game closed can lose progress made since the last successful save.

What is an Autosave entry?

The desktop exit creates a save with a name beginning Autosave_, followed by its date and time in UTC. UTC is a shared time reference, so it may differ from your local clock. The name alone does not mean the game is saving continuously; make a named save at a point you want to keep.

Leaving a lesson is not passing it

A saved lesson and a completed lesson are different things. Read the results screen to see whether you passed. Use Retry there for a fresh attempt, or the training menu to start a lesson again. Starting another lesson replaces the current situation, so save anything you want to retain first.
